Cash for cans
Alloa Community Enterprises Ltd (ACE) is a community recycling charity based in Alloa. Our stated mission is to:-
'operate profitable businesses in Scotland that provide employment, improve employability, increase environmental awareness and return profits to support the social needs of communities in which we operate'.
We already support a number of local community organisations through our Cash for Cans scheme which pays up to 40p per kilogram dependent on the market for aluminium cans and are now introducing our Cash for Textiles scheme.
Cash for textiles
Old textiles suitable for recycling are now a valuable commodity. Most textiles recycled in the UK are separated into three grades. The highest quality items are sold onto businesses in the Developing World, generating employment and providing good quality second hand clothing. Lower grade items are either turned into wiping cloths for industry or recycled into stuffing for mattresses and other soft furnishings.
Following on from our successful Cash for Cans we are now introducing our Cash for Textiles scheme. This will pay organisations up to £200 per tonne for textiles dependent on quality and the market (20p per kilogram). We would like to offer this scheme to schools and other community groups to support their fund raising activities.
There are many other schemes which work like our Cash for Textiles but we believe that we can offer a more flexible service with pickups which suit requirements. Profits generated by ACE are returned to the local community and the jobs generated by our activities are based in Forth Valley. The additional benefits would be similar to those of other schemes, where large amounts of textiles are diverted from landfill, supporting the local authority to meet their recycling targets and protecting the environment.
