Monday 6th August 2007
According to SEPA's latest figures for municipal recycling in Scotland, Clackmannanshire Council have once again come out on top with a remarkable recycling/composting figure of 41.3% for the period June 2005 to June 2006.
As well as an area wide green waste collection and improved CA Site facilities Clackmannanshire's success is also based on their source-segregated kerbside collection provided by Alloa Community Enterprise, one Scotland's foremost community sector recyclers who introduced a kerbside collection in part of Clackmannanshire as a pilot as far back as 2001.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) released the latest waste figures for Scottish local authorities, and they show that "25.3% was recycled or composted in the rolling year to June 2006".
Most local authorities are on track to reach the targets of 25% recycling and composting, according to figures released yesterday.
A grand total of 3,393,354 tonnes of municipal solid waste was produced in Scotland from July 2005 to June 2006.
