Recycling advice

This is a checklist to advise you how to launch your new recycling scheme successfully. It is also possible to arrange for one of our experienced staff to visit your site if necessary; please telephone to arrange.

  1. Decide which materials you could recycle. Please refer to the sheets on each material we recycle. Do you have...
    • office paper or newspapers and magazines too?
    • any waste that needs to be dealt with confidentially?
    • any inkjets or toner cartridges?
    • cardboard, glass or cans?
  2. Estimate how long it might take for you to collect the minimum quantity. This will help you decide if you want a regular pickup or want to contact us when you have enough recyclables for us to collect. We can easily increase collection arrangements.
  3. Arrange a storage space. Can you find an area for the recyclables to be kept that we can easily access for pickups, or will you need to hire or buy a large storage bin from us?
  4. Consult your Health and Safety Officer or Waste Manager. Try to contact colleagues in other departments who might have an interest in the new recycling scheme.
  5. Inform your colleagues, especially the cleaners. It's very important that the people who use and empty the bins know what to recycle and what to put in the bin! Good communication with staff will help build enthusiasm about the new scheme. We can provide posters and advise you on ways to educate others and promote the scheme.
  6. Inform us who the recycling contact is. If you set up the scheme but someone else is in charge of the day to day running, then please let us know. Also please make it clear to us where and to whom any invoices should be addressed.
  7. Decide where the recycling containers will be located. Location is an important factor if you want staff to recycle as much as possible and to limit contamination. Putting a paper recycling bin by the photocopier is a good idea, but near where people eat their lunch is not!
  8. Decide the equipment you will need. Please study our range of containers, from small boxes for each desk to large wheeled bins that can go outside. You can purchase woven polypropylene sacks to line your floor bins. We can help you choose the right number and type of bin for your organisation.
  9. Arrange the pick up point with us. The pick up point could be different to the storage area. We like to keep disruption to your operations to a minimum and we need to park our vehicle close by, so we will agree with you a suitable place for pick ups.
  10. Keep our telephone number handy (01259 215090). We're happy to help you make the right decisions every step of the way. Return the 'Getting Started' form now or call us so we can start to advise you on the best way forward. If you have any queries we're always very happy to help.
