What is Zero Waste?

Zero Waste

Zero Waste means reducing the unnecessary use of raw materials; re-using products where possible and recovering value from products when they reach the end of their lives either through recycling, composting or energy recovery.

Scottish Government

Reduce

Minimising our waste means that less waste has to be sent for Reuse, Recycling or disposal, which helps to minimise its impact on the environment.

Reuse

Product Reuse involves the multiple use of an item in its original form, for its original purpose or for an alternative purpose, with or without reconditioning.

Recycle

Recycling services are available throughout from kerbside to bring sites for many materials. Recycling waste reduces the need for landfill, saves the earth's resources as well as reducing energy use.

Taken from Sort It - a site packed with useful information and practical advice on how you can Reduce, Reuse and Recycle your household waste in Scotland.

Recycling doesn't have to cost the Earth !!

Zero Waste for ACE

The last financial year ACE successfully diverted 99% of material from landfill; with only 1% sent to landfill. This showed that ACE is well ahead of the 2010 Zero Waste Targets.

The figures were compiled from data relating to collections and drop offs of materials to ACE. Recyclate material included: paper, cardboard, glass, cans, textiles and plastic. The material recycled was reprocessed by companies in the UK.

We aim to maintain our high standards and success rates and continually review our working practices to further improve on our success.
